Whimsey, The Willow of Light

Standing 13 feet tall and glowing with nearly 10,000 individually controlled LEDs, Whimsey is a living environment of light, sound, atmosphere, and interaction.

Beneath her illuminated branches, visitors are invited to gather, explore, play, and simply exist for a while. Light moves through the canopy, sound emerges from the living world around her, and the experience changes with the people who enter it.

Whimsey first awakened at Electric Forest in 2024, where she was selected as a winner of the festival's Plug In Program.

Since then, she has continued to travel, grow, and evolve.

A New Light Begins to Grow

Whimsey was never meant to be the end of the story.

Basley is a smaller living willow born from the same idea—combining light, sound, nature, and interaction to create something that feels almost alive.

Standing roughly 7 feet tall, her canopy is formed from around 100 illuminated tendrils, surrounding visitors in flowing light.

But Basley introduces something new.At her roots sits a wishing well.

Touch the water, and the tree responds—transforming light and sound into a moment shared between the visitor and the installation.

A wish becomes an interaction.
An interaction becomes light.
And the imagination does the rest.

What the future Holds

The forest is still growing.

Whimsey was the beginning.

Basley is the next step.

But the vision reaches much further—a growing world of light, sound, nature, and interaction where each new creation becomes part of something larger.

New trees. New senses. New ways to interact. New environments waiting to be imagined.

The goal isn't simply to build bigger installations.

It's to create places where, for a little while, the ordinary world disappears—where curiosity takes over, imagination wakes up, and the inner child gets to lead the way again.
